Hail!: This all-star Metal act is composed of bassist David Ellefson (Megadeth, F5), singer Tim “Ripper” Owens (Judas Priest, Yngwie Malmsteen, Iced Earth), guitarist Andreas Kisser (Sepultura), and drummer Paul Bostaph (Testament, Slayer, Exodus, Forbidden) the latter replacing both Jimmy DeGrasso from Ali replica handbags on sale
On November 20th 2009, they offered Lebanon an amazing performance at Hektic Hall Beirut, aiming to “[break] ground on an international level” with an amazingly innovative concept as their manager Mark “Abba” Abbattista pointed out. This concert was the first international Heavy Metal gig for many Lebanese fans replica handbags . So, what do they offer? Breath taking covers of classics by Megadeth, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Sepultura, Slayer, Pantera, Motorhead, Accept, Saxon Venom, and more. As the band said, “[their] goal is to make every show a special once-in-a-lifetime event. [They] strive to make every show different and no two shows have been the same. [They] want every fan to know that what they experience at [Hail!’s] concert will never happen again."
The band often enjoyed friendly jams with bands such as Dimmu Borgir, Mercyful Fate, Gorgoroth, Meshuggah, Drain STH, King Diamond mainly during their Scandinavian tour.
In an interview at the time of their concert in 2009, the band’s manager also admitted to being prepared for the tensions occurring in the Middle East but still wanted to deliver to Lebanon an amazing performance as, “music transcends all the boundaries that geography, language, religion and politics create."
Now, after 3 years and a change in members, replacing David Ellefson with James LoMenzo (mainly Megadeth, Ozzy Osbourne and White Lion) and Andreas Kisser with Dave Linsk (Overkill), and after already touring Sweden, Finland and the USA this year, the band is back to offer Lebanon yet another performance on March 31st at Demco Steel, Quarantina.
They will be supported this time by Episode, a Lebanese Progressive band that merges Classical music with Metal fervor. Lead by Avo Demirdjian (known mainly from The Arcane and Overbliss) on the electric violin, he conceived the band’s concept in 2007 but it wasn’t until 2009 that he founded its structure along with John Lahham on drums and percussion, with Izzat Ramadan then joining in on bass. Although, mainly due to chemistry and organization issues, Karnig “Karno” Baghdassarian has been taking care of the bass since June 2010 and has since been performing and composing with the band. Episode recently caught the Rock Scene’s attention during 2011’s Lebanese Global Battle of the Bands. After winning Heat 4 of the competition, they performed in the finals on August 13th but, sadly, got cut. Their real breakthrough though was being the only Lebanese band to open for Serj Tankian at the Beirut Rock Festival 2011 on September 2nd.
We talked to Roy from Rock Ring (the event organizers) to get more insight about the event, how they booked Hail! to play for the second time, and why Episode was chosen to be the opening band :
"HAIL! loved their visit here their first time, it was one of their best concerts actually, so they've been always in contact since and we've been always trying to find the right time to get them + we had problems finding location...so it finally worked out and we're looking forward for what we expect to be one of the biggest metal concerts in Lebanon.
Episode is an excellent progressive rock violin based band that has some metal elements, we thought it would be nice to show something new and different as a warm up for HAIL!Also choosing a metal band would be a harder task, lots of good bands, on what basis should we choose one band? so it was easier to drift away from pure metal bands plus Episode have their album coming up, so we also wanted to support them and their big efforts as they have achieved a lot in a relatively quick period of time... they work hard, and on all aspects, from music to image to marketing, they are professional in what they do and we need more bands like that."
