Highlights: I couldn't pick a highlight
Phobos Corporation is a Symphonic Gothic Metal band from Greece and this is their newer EP CD, "Felicity". The band was formed in 1998 and their songs are generally heavy, crunchy and mid-paced with frequent rocking Power Metal touches that are infused with some heavier sounding influences. The EP begins with a nice atmospheric piece that does the job well, in that it prepares the listener for the melodic journey that is to come. Each song features several warm, lush, festive, often folksy styled passages that complement the catchy and engaging Metal passages.
The results are the creation of a satisfactory selection of variety and diversity in songwriting, especially considering how smoothly the band transitions from one passage to the next. The music is highly symphonic with the use of strings and keyboards, yet is still very firmly Metal – with Power Metal riffs that fit in excellently with the rest of the music. All music is composed very well, which is an impressive achievement mainly because the band seems to be equally brilliant with all the instruments that they play.
Their female guest vocalist, Tara, is without question the centerpiece of the EP, at least in terms of delivering the melodies. She has an incredibly strong style. What I liked the most about the EP is that it is mixed with such power and confidence while building the structure of the songs. The performance of Tara’s vocals and Mark’s guitar riffs was one of the most engaging and captivating I’ve heard in 2012 and I look forward to hearing them as they mature in their songwriting skills.I was highly surprised that an independent EP release had a professional sound like this. This band sounds like it has more albums to its name and I hope to hear more from them in the future.
