Highlights:  The best concert I’ve seen so far

The best concert I’ve seen so far…

These guys are at least 60 years old and are still more dynamic than any other band. The vocalist was climbing on the other members, guitarist Rudolf Schenker  was rolling his guitar around on his neck like a hoola hoop, Schenker and Jabs played a game of cat and mouse while strumming each other’s guitars, not to mention the amazing drummer James Kottack who didn’t leave a single spot where he didn’t jump on! They guy must have been on cocaine or something.

I was watching the last of  3 Scorpions shows in Lebanon (Scheduled on 4,6, and 7 July). I got there just in time after 3 hours of traffic (causing me to piss in a bottle during the car ride as not to waste time in a toilet). The concert started off with “Sting in the Tail”, an acceptable song. From then on the playlist just kept moving higher and higher on the popularity scale, ending with “Big City Nights”.

Another cool thing was the huge slideshow behind the band. For example, during “Wind of Change” (which apparently is about the change in Berlin when the wall came down) some footage of the wall coming down and everyone joining hands and stuff was showed. Also, during Kottack’s long-ass drum solo there was some footage of all the girls these guys banged and some random other cool footage.

The show supposedly ended at about 11 PM, but that clearly wasn’t enough! None of the VERY BIG songs had been played yet. So the “staged encore” started around 11:10 and the band played Still Loving You”, “Wind of Change”, “Rock You like a Hurricane”, “and “When the Smoke is Going Down”.

I also think the drummer was on cocaine because he couldn’t even drink a cup of beer properly, but maybe that’s because he’s too old. But still, amazing concert! Everyone loved it and people are still talking about it. Certainly a lasting memory of The Scorpions farewell tour for the Lebanese.
