Ethereal - Lunacy Falls
Reviewer: Mujtaba M Badr - 2012-09-01
Highlights: I prefer listening to the whole EP
It seems my knowledge of bands origins is little weak, because before writing this review, I thought almost all these bands in this list here, are some Scandinavian dudes, [in some cases chicks!], but thanks to Ethereal, one of the new bands hails from The Netherlands, now am aware of how many bands from there who are famous and well known for their Symphonic/Proggy sound, and Etherealcontinues the tradition, but with more brutalitly, kind of!
Ethereal plays mainly Melodic Death Metal, but with Keyboards and some Symphonic touches, a combination that I usually hate, except in few conditions when the band do it right, just like with the case of Wintersun, and no, I hate Children of Bodom!! I just cant undestrand all this fuss about them.
And despite they point Bodom as one of their main influence, the good news is, Ethereal is one of those exceptions, and with their second EP, Lunacy Falls, the band show an amazing musicianship, an amazing talent of mixing groovy melodic riffs with catchy synthesizers melodies, and keep it highly amusing during the entire EP. They don’t exaggerate and/or showing off, they just put everything in its right place and blend it all together in very unique sound, and each song of this EP is a great example of this.
Our fans in Morocco were lucky to catch this band live opening for Arch Enemy few months ago, because from what you will hear in “Lunacy Falls”, you will know that this band is serious with what they are doing, and they are really walking the path of excellence within their own genre. Get your copy of “Lunacy Falls” and you will be highly anticipating Ethereal debut album as I do, which is luckily under the recording process.
