I have to admit that before actually listening to this album, my mindset was negative. I was expecting a raw and poorly excuted black or grindcore sound. But then I listened to the album and I was disappointed when I found it to be better than my expectations. I intended to make fun of the band. Now I'll have to write a real review.
Al Lahd (which means "Grave" in Arabic) is a Funeral Doom/Atmospheric album by the Egyptian band "Nutr". Looking at their back-catalog, this album is a step away from their earlier works with titles as "Ay Beten Gun" , "Tonight, Your Place, My Sperm, Your Face" and "Sex On A Bed Of Nails" and song titles that would give the members of Torsofuck a hard-on. This has changed however, the song titles are more or less religion-oriented and deal with death and after-death. The cover art is rather simple and shows a skeleton in an open grave, which is also a step away from the bleeding fat woman in bondage. This album also features a new band logo.
Now comes the music. This is funeral doom metal, a genre I'm not a fan of. I found this album decent nevertheless. Kind of depressing and suicidal, which is what it's all about, I guess. The guitars are decent, so are the bass and drums. Simple but gets the job done. The vocals range from orgasm moans to gargling on semen. (sorry, this had to be said) There are also some fitting "ambient electronic sounds" throughout the album but they aren't the album's best moments. The songs kind of end abruptly, which is a minor inconvenience. And some songs sound similar to each other.
Frankly, there isn't much else to be said about this album. It's neither good nor bad. If you are a fan of the genre you may like this album. I found it decent but it's not going to show up on my playlists often.
